ONLY MAKE BELIEVE offers a unique program to children under medical or supervised care. Each OMB cycle consists of six one-hour workshops that are targeted to those children isolated most due to chronic illness or disabilities.
Their team of actors consists of an ensemble of multi-racial and bilingual professionals with extensive training in educational theatre. When they arrive, the troupe brings with them colorful backdrops and a trunk brimming with props and costumes. The actors involve the children in an interactive, theatrical journey. Most importantly, each child is engaged one-on-one, enabling them to be stars of the show. As a result, the children are able to view themselves as more than just ill and disabled. They gain a sense of self-worth and self-esteem, and for the first time, many see a world of possibilities rather than limitations. They are able to be, first and foremost, children.
And after the ONLY MAKE BELIEVE cycle is finished, the prop-filled trunk is left behind as a permanent gift for the children.
