Volunteer Opportunities
St. Lukes LifeWorks and BREAD & ROSES depend on volunteers and donations to provide everything beyond the bare essentials for their clients your efforts and talents are always welcome. Below is a general list of the areas where they need help. Please call their Director of Voluntary Services, Wally Frey: 388-0175 (email:Wfrey@stlukeslifeworks.org) to arrange a volunteer placement for you or your group!
Much Needed Volunteer Opportunities!
- Volunteer Drivers for BREAD & ROSES
- Volunteer Cooks for BREAD & ROSES
- Mentoring children or adults including formal training
- Direct Staff Assistance in the Family or Womens Housing programs
Ongoing timing and frequency flexible
(minimum once per week preferred)
- Meals Provide and serve dinner once per month, or weekday breakfast (from once per month to once per week) at 8 Woodland for Womens Housing and Gilead House or at McKinney House or Bread & Roses; Provide and serve occasional weekend breakfast or dinner
- Educational enrichment painting, cooking, sewing, etc.
- Help in The Childrens Community (their on-site daycare center) - high school and adults
- Pick-up and delivery prepared meals at area homes for McKinney House; project supplies (primarily painting) for volunteer projects, Food Bank runs
- Administrative assistance of all types
- Deliver inter-agency mail and donations between their programs and facilities in Stamford
- Staff xCHANGE (sorting and stocking, helping clients during "shopping" hours). The xCHANGE is a store where clients shop using scrip earned in their residential program to purchase donated merchandise (housewares, toiletries, games, clothing)
- Reception Desk assistance
- Adult tutoring for computer, GED degree (as needed and when facilities are available)
Project or "one-time" opportunities
- Special Interest Activities for clients in various residential programs (sewing, writing, movie nights, self-esteem, self-defense, reading, games, field trips, etc.)
- Painting and improvement projects throughout agency
- Yard and outdoor clean-ups weather permitting
- Hands on assistance with gardening, painting, skilled carpentry
- Donation of licensed and professional services (from plumbers/electricians to accounting or medical skills. CPAs, CFPs, LLDs, - they need you!)
