Hilltop Health Center
Hilltop Health Center is a free clinic serving residents of Porter County who cannot otherwise afford health care. Those who have no private health insurance, who do not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid, and who meet the income criteria, may quality as patients of Hilltop Health Center and will receive their primary health care through this clinic.
Services are provided by a certified Family Nurse Practitioner, who works in collaboration with the clinics Medical Director, a local Family Practice Physician, who volunteers his services. A Registered Nurse is assigned by the Porter County Health Department to work at the clinic. Students and faculty from Valparaiso Universitys College of Nursing are also involved in providing services. The office is managed by both paid and volunteer staff Porter Memorial Hospital supports many diagnostic services for Hilltop patients.
Special evening dinics, served by volunteer physicians, are held approximately once each week. More than 35 physician specialists have agreed to treat patients referred by the Hilltop Health Center for no fee or a greatly discounted fee. A local pediatric physician group accepts children referred by Hilltop and provides them with 24-hour coverage.
