The Casey Cares Foundation
WHY CASEY CARES
I suppose it seems to the casual observer that the last thing the world may need is another charity. For people fortunate to live without serious health problems and have healthy children and grandchildren, this would be the case. Not everyone is that lucky.
For must of us, the first 18 years of our lives are carefree and fun. Time is spent in school with friends, learning simple lessons and laughing.
Consider for a moment those who do not fit this mold - the children who battle disease. Little league games and pajama parties are replaced by bone marrow transplants and chemotherapy. Laughing is replaced by induced comas. Running is done in a wheelchair because strength is depleted. Simple lessons become extremely tough life lessons that rob them of their innocence and childhood. Their young eyes see things that many adults never see.
Their battling bodies become ripples in the water, affecting the entire family structure. Unintentionally, siblings are slighted. A sick child has immediate needs and siblings must learn early on that these needs must come first. Parenting a sick child is heart wrenching. What parent would not trade places? Most times, a parent must leave the workplace causing great financial strain. If a child encounters a long hospital stay, money is needed for parking and food expenses for the parent staying at the bedside. The financial drains are endless. With the "fun" removed from the family, relationships are put to the test. Unfortunately, some families are separated by divorce. Some are strengthened with the support of an extended family. These are the lucky ones.
So when you think the world does not need another foundation, please consider the plight of these families.
For these reasons, CASEY CARES FOUNDATION is the "new" kid on the block. We have a dedicated team of caring workers with years of experience in the field of helping critically ill children. CASEY CARES FOUNDATION will work with hospitals and families throughout the country to provide these families time away from treatment and anguish. From a fun day at a local amusement park to a weekend getaway, we endeavor to make these families smile.
The mission of CASEY CARES FOUNDATION is to enrich the lives of children with critical illnesses by providing family based recreational and supportive programs. If you find it in your heart to help support our mission, please call us or visit our website at www.caseycares.org.
